The new versions combine the brand’s factory-fitted S-CNG technology with a 5-speed Auto Gear Shift (AGS) transmission, offering clutch-free driving convenience for buyers who primarily drive in busy city traffic.

Prices for the new automatic CNG models start at ₹7.29 lakh for the Swift S-CNG, while the Baleno S-CNG AMT is priced from ₹8.32 lakh and the Dzire S-CNG AMT starts at ₹8.53 lakh. All prices are ex-showroom.

With this introduction, Maruti Suzuki is targeting buyers who want the running-cost advantage of CNG but do not want to deal with a manual gearbox during daily urban commutes.

Maruti Suzuki Automatic S-CNG: Prices and Mileage

Here is a quick look at the prices and claimed fuel efficiency of the three new models:

Model

Starting Price (Ex-showroom)

Claimed CNG Efficiency

Maruti Suzuki Swift S-CNG AMT

₹7.29 lakh

35.34 km/kg

Maruti Suzuki Baleno S-CNG AMT

₹8.32 lakh

34.47 km/kg

Maruti Suzuki Dzire S-CNG AMT

₹8.53 lakh

36.47 km/kg

The Dzire S-CNG AMT has the highest claimed fuel efficiency among the three models at 36.47 km/kg. The Swift and Baleno return 35.34 km/kg and 34.47 km/kg, respectively, according to Maruti Suzuki’s claimed figures.

1.2-litre Engine With 5-speed AMT

All three automatic CNG models are powered by Maruti Suzuki’s 1.2-litre Z12E petrol engine. The engine gets technologies such as Dual Variable Valve Timing (Dual VVT) and Idle Start Stop (ISS), with the CNG powertrain paired with a 5-speed AGS transmission.

The automated manual transmission operates the clutch and gear shifts automatically, making the cars easier to drive in stop-and-go traffic. Drivers can also manually select gears when required.

This combination is particularly relevant for buyers in cities where heavy traffic and frequent clutch operation can make a conventional manual transmission tiring.

Automatic Convenience Meets CNG Running Costs

Until now, buyers looking for a factory-fitted CNG car with an automatic transmission had relatively limited options in the mass-market segment. With the Swift, Dzire and Baleno, Maruti Suzuki is extending this combination across three popular models.

The company says the new range has been introduced under its ‘Auto Green Mission’, which focuses on combining automatic driving convenience with improved fuel efficiency.

The move also comes as CNG continues to gain popularity among Indian car buyers looking for lower running costs. Maruti Suzuki claims that its S-CNG sales grew by 58% year-on-year during the first quarter, while the company recorded its highest-ever monthly S-CNG sales of 83,000 units in July.

Maruti Suzuki S-CNG Technology

The S-CNG system uses an intelligent injection system designed to optimise air-fuel delivery. Maruti Suzuki has also incorporated several components specifically designed for its factory-fitted CNG vehicles.

These include stainless-steel pipes and joints, integrated wiring harnesses and a microswitch that prevents the engine from starting while CNG is being refuelled.

The factory-fitted setup also means the CNG hardware is integrated into the vehicle rather than being installed as an aftermarket kit.

Automatic CNG Models Available in Select Variants

The new automatic S-CNG powertrain will be offered on select variants of the Swift, Dzire and Baleno. This gives customers the option to choose between the convenience of an automatic transmission and the lower running costs associated with CNG.

For buyers spending most of their time in urban traffic, the new range could offer a combination of automatic convenience, factory-fitted CNG technology and high claimed fuel efficiency.

With these three models, Maruti Suzuki has further expanded its automatic CNG portfolio and brought the technology to some of its most popular models in the Indian market.

Maruti Suzuki has expanded its CNG lineup with the introduction of automatic S-CNG variants of the Swift, Dzire and Baleno
