Tata Sierra Frequently Asked Questions

The Tata Sierra price starts at ₹11.49 lakh (ex-showroom) for the base Smart+ NA Petrol Manual and goes up to ₹21.29 lakh for the top Accomplished+ Diesel AT. On-road prices in Delhi range from approximately ₹13.37 lakh to ₹25.28 lakh depending on variant. The Sierra was launched on November 25, 2025 and is available across 24 variants spanning three engines and five transmission options.

Three engines are on offer. The 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol (Revotron) makes 106 PS and 145 Nm, available with a 6-speed manual or 7-speed dual-clutch automatic. The 1.5L turbocharged petrol (Hyperion TGDI) makes 160 PS and 255 Nm and comes exclusively with a 6-speed torque converter automatic — no manual option. The 1.5L diesel (Kryojet CRAIL) makes 118 PS with 260 Nm on manual and 280 Nm on automatic, available with a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic.

Autocar India tested the diesel automatic and returned 11.53 kmpl in city conditions and 14.56 kmpl on the highway — giving a combined real-world average of approximately 13 kmpl. The diesel manual ARAI figure is 21.26 kmpl but real-world city numbers will be in the 12–14 kmpl range with AC on. The turbo petrol automatic returns approximately 10–12 kmpl in city traffic. ARAI figures across variants range from 15.3 kmpl (turbo petrol AT) to 21.26 kmpl (diesel MT).

The Sierra offers 622 litres of boot space measured by the VDA method — the largest in the mid-size SUV segment. The Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos offer 433 litres each. With the rear seats folded, the Sierra's cargo area expands to 1,257 litres, making it one of the most practical five-seater SUVs in India at any price.

Yes. The Tata Sierra received a 5-star BNCAP (Bharat NCAP) safety rating, applicable to all units manufactured from March 2026 onward. All variants get 6 airbags as standard — not just the top trims. This is one of the Sierra's strongest advantages over the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos, which have not been tested under India's domestic crash test protocol at the time of writing.

The Sierra has a 2,730mm wheelbase — 120mm longer than both the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos (2,610mm each). This translates directly into rear passenger legroom. Three adults can sit in the rear without the middle passenger's knees touching the front seat backs. For a family buying a five-seater SUV as their primary car, this difference is noticeable on every trip.

Yes — the Sierra is India's first ICE (internal combustion engine) vehicle with 5G connectivity, enabled through Tata's t.idal 2.0 electric architecture. This allows OTA (over-the-air) software updates for up to 10 ECUs simultaneously, keeping the car's systems current without a workshop visit. No rival in this segment — Creta, Seltos, Grand Vitara — offers this on their ICE models.

From the Accomplished trim onward, the Sierra gets three screens in the dashboard: a 10.5-inch digital driver instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch central infotainment display, and a 12.3-inch co-driver passenger screen — allowing the front passenger to independently use entertainment, navigation, or apps without sharing the driver's screen. This is a segment-first feature at this price point.

Not at launch. The Sierra is front-wheel drive only across all currently available variants. However, Tata has confirmed that the ARGOS platform underpinning the Sierra is AWD-capable, and an AWD variant is actively under consideration for 2026 based on demand. If AWD is a non-negotiable requirement right now, the Sierra is not the right purchase — but it may be available as a variant before the year is out.

The Accomplished+ is the only Sierra variant with an augmented reality heads-up display (AR HUD) showing 19 smart visuals — including navigation directions, speed, ADAS alerts, and terrain information — overlaid on the windscreen without requiring a smartphone. It also adds Level 2+ ADAS with 22 features including blind-spot detection, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear collision warning on top of the standard Level 2 suite. No competitor in this price range offers AR HUD.

For most buyers, yes. The fact that 55% of Sierra bookings as of January 2026 are diesel is a strong signal. The diesel delivers better low-end torque for real-world driving, meaningfully better real-world highway fuel efficiency, and lower per-kilometre running costs for buyers covering more than 1,000 km per month. The turbo petrol is the better choice if performance and a smoother petrol character matter more than running costs, and if your monthly mileage is under 800 km.

For value-focused buyers: the Adventure Diesel MT at ₹16.49 lakh — you get the Sierra's practical strengths (622L boot, long wheelbase, panoramic sunroof, 360-degree camera) with the most economical long-term engine option. For performance buyers: the Adventure+ Turbo Petrol AT at ₹17.49 lakh — 160 PS and 255 Nm with a smooth automatic is genuinely enjoyable in real-world traffic. For buyers who want everything: the Accomplished Diesel AT at ₹19.99 lakh — triple screen, JBL Dolby Atm
