Important note before reading: The Tata Altroz EV has not launched in India at the time of writing (April 2026). Launch estimates from various sources range from August 2026 to early 2027. No official price, variant list, or confirmed specifications have been announced by Tata Motors. This page covers confirmed platform details, what spy shots and auto expo showcases have revealed, and an honest analysis of where the Altroz EV fits in the market. All prices and specs are estimates and will be updated at launch.
The Tata Altroz EV will be India's first premium electric hatchback in the B2 segment — a category that currently has no direct rival. The Tiago EV exists below it as a budget city EV hatchback. The Punch EV sits alongside it but as a micro-SUV, not a hatchback. When the Altroz EV launches, it will occupy a unique position: a premium, feature-rich, 5-star safety-rated electric hatchback designed specifically for buyers who want a proper premium cabin, a larger body than the Tiago EV, and the EV running cost advantage — without stepping up to the size and price of a compact SUV.
The ICE Altroz has earned its reputation as the most premium hatchback in India — winning 5-star Bharat NCAP in September 2025, offering a 10.25-inch touchscreen with wireless connectivity, a 360-degree camera, extended under-thigh support seating, and build quality that consistently impresses reviewers at its price point. The EV version is expected to carry all of that forward, with the added advantage of Tata's Acti.ev electric platform and zero tailpipe emissions.
Tata Altroz EV Expected Price in India 2026
Based on platform positioning, battery options expected, and Tata's established EV pricing strategy, the Tata Altroz EV price is estimated between ₹12 lakh and ₹15 lakh (ex-showroom). This would place it above the Tiago EV's ₹7.99–11.14 lakh range and broadly alongside the Punch EV's lower variants — giving it a clearly defined spot in the lineup.

What Spy Shots and Showcases Have Confirmed About the Design
The pre-production Altroz EV was first showcased at Auto Expo 2020 and has been spotted in testing multiple times through 2024–25. Based on these, the following design details are confirmed or highly likely:
- Closed front grille — no air intake needed for electric motor; gives a cleaner, more modern face than the ICE Altroz
- Blue accents on the front fascia, grille area, and badging — consistent with Tata's EV design language
- Aerodynamic alloy wheel design — multi-spoke pattern optimised to reduce drag and improve range
- No tailpipes — the only immediately obvious visual EV identifier at the rear
- Teal Blue exclusive paint colour — first showcased on the concept, expected to carry to production
- Overall silhouette unchanged from ICE Altroz — same 3,990mm length, 1,755mm width, 1,523mm height
- Interior: EV-specific gear selector in centre console; rest of the cabin expected to closely mirror the ICE Altroz's already-premium layout
Altroz EV vs Tiago EV — Understanding the Difference
A key question every potential buyer will ask is why choose the Altroz EV over the Tiago EV. The differences are meaningful and go beyond the body size:

The One Concern — Ground Clearance
The standard ICE Altroz has a ground clearance of 145mm — the lowest of any Tata vehicle. This is a genuine limitation for Indian roads, where speed breakers, broken surfaces, and occasional waterlogging require at least 165–170mm. The Tiago EV has 165mm. The Punch EV has 195mm. If the Altroz EV carries over the same 145mm figure from the petrol version, it will be a real-world handicap that buyers in any city outside Mumbai or Bangalore flat grid roads will feel regularly. The final ground clearance figure at launch needs to be watched carefully before committing to the Altroz EV over the Punch EV.
Expected Features Based on ICE Altroz Platform
The ICE Altroz is one of the most feature-rich hatchbacks in India. The EV version is expected to carry forward most of these:
- 10.25-inch floating touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
- 360-degree camera system with blind view monitor (on top variants)
- Extended under-thigh support seating — the standout comfort feature of the 2025 Altroz facelift
- 6 airbags expected across variants — consistent with Tata's standard for all new vehicles
- Dual-zone automatic climate control
- Digital instrument cluster — EV-specific display with range, energy flow, and charge indicators
- Ambient lighting
- Wireless charging pad
- Connected car technology via Tata's iRA platform
- V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) — expected on mid and top variants based on Acti.ev platform capability
- Drive modes — at minimum Road and City; Sport possible on top variant
- Illuminated steering wheel logo — unique Altroz feature carried forward

Should You Wait for the Tata Altroz EV?
Wait for the Altroz EV if you specifically want a premium electric hatchback body — not a micro-SUV. The Altroz has the best interior in the hatchback segment, a 5-star BNCAP foundation, and a longer wheelbase than the Tiago EV. If cabin quality, seating comfort, and a longer body with more passenger space matter to you — and you want all of this in an EV — there is currently nothing in India that delivers exactly this package.
Do not wait for the Altroz EV if you need a car before mid-2026, or if ground clearance is important to your driving conditions. If you regularly navigate bad roads, high speed breakers, or live in a city with flooding risk, the Punch EV's 195mm clearance is a meaningful real-world advantage over the Altroz's expected 145–165mm. At similar pricing, the Punch EV Adventure (40 kWh) at ₹11.49 lakh is a fully available, tested product with DC fast charging and higher ground clearance right now.
Also consider that the Altroz EV is launching into a market where the Punch EV and Nexon EV are well-established with owner communities, service records, and real-world range data already documented. The Altroz EV will be a first-generation product on this platform — a situation that benefits from waiting 6–12 months after launch before buying, to let early-adopter feedback accumulate.
