The Tata Punch EV made history as India's best-selling electric car for much of 2024 — not by accident, but by solving the exact problem that had kept mainstream Indian buyers away from EVs. It took the Punch's already-proven sub-4m platform, added a competent electric powertrain, kept the price within reach of a mass-market buyer, and launched it through Tata's 600+ service network. The February 2026 facelift refined the formula further with updated styling, improved range, and new safety features.

Tata Punch EV Frequently Asked Questions

The Tata Punch EV price starts at ₹9.69 lakh (ex-showroom) for the Smart 30 kWh variant and goes up to ₹14.49 lakh for the top Empowered+S 40 kWh. Under the BaaS scheme, the Smart variant starts at ₹6.49 lakh without the battery.

The 30 kWh pack delivers 260–290 km in real-world city driving with AC on. The 40 kWh pack delivers 340–380 km in mixed city and highway use. The MIDC claimed figures are 365 km and 468 km respectively — treat those as upper limits in ideal conditions.

Only the 40 kWh variants (Adventure, Empowered, Empowered+S) support DC fast charging — 20 to 80 percent in approximately 26 minutes on a 50 kW DC charger. The 30 kWh Smart and Smart+ variants do not support DC fast charging at all and can only charge via AC.

BaaS stands for Battery as a Service. You buy the car without the battery at a lower upfront cost (₹6.49 lakh for Smart) and pay a monthly subscription for battery usage. It makes financial sense if your monthly mileage is under 1,200 km. Above that, outright purchase is more economical over five years.

The top Empowered+S variant gets 6 airbags as standard. Lower variants get fewer — check the specific variant spec sheet before booking.

195 mm across all variants — higher than the Citroen eC3 (180 mm) and MG Windsor EV (165 mm), making it better suited for Indian roads and light waterlogging.

The Adventure 40 kWh at ₹11.49 lakh is the best buy. It unlocks the larger battery, DC fast charging, and 468 km claimed range at the most competitive price point in the 40 kWh lineup.
