Q1. What is the Tata Safari price in India 2026?

The Tata Safari price starts at ₹13.29 lakh (ex-showroom) for the base Smart Petrol Manual and goes up to ₹26.40 lakh for the top Accomplished Ultra Red Dark Diesel AT. The new Accomplished Ultra diesel was launched on May 5, 2026 at ₹24.50 lakh giving diesel buyers the same full feature set previously limited to the petrol top variant.

Q2. Does the Tata Safari now have a petrol engine?

Yes. The 1.5L Hyperion turbocharged direct-injection petrol engine producing 170 PS and 280 Nm was launched on January 7, 2026. It is available with a 6-speed manual or 6-speed torque converter automatic across all trim levels from Smart upward. The petrol is smoother and more refined at higher speeds than the diesel, though it produces 70 Nm less torque.

Q3. What is the real-world mileage of the Tata Safari?

The diesel manual returns 12–15 kmpl in city conditions and 16–20 kmpl on the highway. The diesel automatic returns 11–14 kmpl city and 15–19 kmpl highway. One verified owner reported 20 kmpl on the Samruddhi Expressway at 100 kmph in Eco mode. The petrol variants return 9–12 kmpl in city traffic and 13–17 kmpl on the highway. ARAI figures of 16.3 kmpl (diesel MT) are achievable only under ideal test conditions.

Q4. Is the Tata Safari available in a 6-seater configuration?

Yes, but only on the Accomplished X+ trim and above. The 6-seater option replaces the second-row bench with individual captain chairs — significantly improving second-row comfort and access to the third row. The Accomplished X+ Stealth Dark edition is also available in 6-seater configuration. All other trims are 7-seater only.

Q5. How does the Tata Safari compare to the Mahindra XUV700?

The Safari wins on body width (1,922mm vs 1,890mm), road presence, and the BNCAP safety rating specific to Indian crash tests. The XUV700 wins on engine torque (450 Nm diesel vs 350 Nm), AWD availability, and slightly larger boot space. Both offer Level 2 ADAS and 5-star safety ratings — the XUV700's rating is from Global NCAP, the Safari's from India's own Bharat NCAP protocol. At comparable spec levels, pricing is broadly similar.
